Laura Kraftowitz is the founding co-director of City of Asylum/Detroit, a nonprofit that provides safe-haven fellowships to exiled writers and artists under threat of persecution. Her essays have appeared or are forthcoming in The Kenyon Review, Lit Hub, Poetry, Protean, Evergreen Review, and elsewhere. She is a winner of the Kresge Foundation’s Gilda Award and a finalist for the Witness Magazine Literary Awards, the Narrative Magazine Story Contest, and The Adroit Journal’s Gregory Djanikian Scholars Program in Poetry. Previously, she was an on-the-ground reporter in Gaza for The Electronic Intifada.
